Welcome to the 2015-16 school year at Mt. Carmel Elementary!
I am amazed that time can pass so quickly, and that I am entering my fourth year as principal of Mt. Carmel Elementary School. This year we will continue to strive for excellence by empowering our students to learn, lead, and succeed. Our teachers have continued their “Leader in Me” training, and this year we will continue to encourage our students to practice the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. We will also begin working with students to set goals for personal and academic achievement. Each student will have a data notebook to track his/her progress toward his/her individual goals. We also plan to provide additional enrichment activities for the students. We believe every student has gifts and talents. We will seek to develop these gifts and promote school-wide goal setting and leadership.
I take the role of instructional leader very seriously, and I accept this opportunity with great pride and enthusiasm. This year we will continue to fully implement the Alabama College and Career Ready Standards. We plan to offer curriculum nights for our parents and community to strengthen the home to school connection and provide training on how parents can help students with their studies. I believe home and school is a partnership, and parental involvement is a critical component to each child’s success. I am honored to serve in such an active and caring community.
My vision for Mt. Carmel Elementary is to provide a student-centered learning environment and a place where creativity and leadership are encouraged. I believe that children learn best when they are actively involved in their school, enthusiastically engaged in their curriculum, and fully immersed in the learning process. I believe teaching and learning should be fun and engaging. Students need to make meaningful connections between the skills taught and the world around them. It is my goal to foster an environment where students become adaptable, effective learners who are able to think critically and creatively. I also want to create an environment where parents become dynamic participants in the instructional realm of the approved curriculum. I believe that parents can be the school’s greatest asset as they have the unique ability to take learning beyond the four walls of the classroom and into the career-based environment where learning becomes reality.
Once again, I look forward to an exciting year and encourage you to become an active participant in the school environment as we develop the strong partnership that is needed for the educational success of our children. Please call me, email me, or schedule a visit if there are any questions.
