The Library Media Specialist for Mt. Carmel Elementary, is Mrs. Cyndy Dunning. Mrs.Dunning has worked as a Legal Secretary, Offset Printing Pre-Press Journeyman, Special Education K-12 teacher, and School Library Media Specialist. Her interest in education, literature and technology have been common throughout her work career. As a graduate from Athens State College, with BS in Special Education K-12, Mrs. Dunning taught across the grade levels in Rutherford County Schools (TN) and Madison County Schools (AL). After obtaining her Masters degree in Library Science from University of Alabama, Mrs. Dunning was hired as Library Media Specialist for Mt. Carmel Elementary in 2008.
As Library Media Specialist for Mt. Carmel Elementary, Mrs. Dunning feels her role is like a Conductor of Reading; her goal is to lead children in their reading exploration across multiple formats of literature (physical and digital), guide them through the tours of genre, prepare the loading platform of career exploration in S.T.E.A.M topics (Science Technology Engineering Art & Science) and provide clear direction and instruction of how to navigate a library independently.
Sharing stories with her own children, and now her grandson, Ivan, Mrs. Dunning has always loved taking the time to match children with the perfect book. She is honored to serve as school librarian to over 600 children at Mt. Carmel Elementary and continue a legacy of love for reading. She is married to Ed Dunning and together they have two children, Justin and Candice.
